When taking the pictures of Ashley, I decided that I wanted a white background so that the text I was going to put on top stood out and it didn't look cluttered, I also think that this look looks professional. Ashley plays the character of the witch and I intended to not put her in her costume because I wanted it to be an interview with Ashley. An interview with the actress herself and not the character will make the audience think that they will be able to get more personal and see the article as more interesting.
I edited the picture by using surface blur to take away any imperfections and sharpen the picture to make her features stand out. As you can see from the picture, her skin has been become smooth and her facial features stand out. I then increase the saturation and the exposure so that there is more colour to her face and to make the her face have light on her to stand out. The exposure has made her eyes and her lips brighter to make her stand out more and look well groomed. For the dark edges around the image, I darkened the vignette and make the midpoint lighter, this makes it look like a lense around the image and I think this gives it a professional look like other media products.
I have used a range of texts to resemble other media products such as Bookman Old Style, I think  simple looking texts have a better effect and don't take the attention away from the image. To make some texts stand out from others, I have added a drop shadow which looks professional and makes each text look different from one another to represent each article.
The masthead of 'RealFilm' has been done deliberately from a reel of film. The house style of red, white and black has been chosen since the red reflects on horror and it is also the house style for Hansel and Gretel.

Here I have done the witch in her cloak so that she resembles how she looked in the trailer so that the audience recognise her and the synergy looks consistent. I have done her on a brick wall with candles on either side of her to make it look gothic and also reflect on the dark twist that we have created in the film to interest people, most people would think that the film would be based around Hansel and Gretel but we want to show the audience that it is based around the witch as well. She is looking down and not into the lense to show a different side to her, that maybe she is lonely and this may keep the audience guessing.
To edit the image, I increased the saturation, exposure and the midpoint and decreased the vignette to cause this effect that would get rid of the surrounding and make it look like she is living in darkness.
The text has been edited by adding an inner glow to make it look gothic and show that Hansel and Gretel has a darker twist, the red has been used throughout the campaign to look recognisable and to make the synergy look consistent. On the billing block I made sure that some text was bigger to stand out such as 'MUSIC BY', I also added the Warner Bro's logo to show who the film belongs to and to link it with the trailers ident. The text for the website and the date have been done different deliberately to stand out, especially the date to make it stick in the audience's mind. The actors' names have been put at the top to make them look recognisable to the audience and if they see a famous name, they may relate their name to a film that they have previous been in and go to see them.

Soundtrack

We chose the soundtrack from Sleepy Hollow because it fits well in with our trailer. We orginally thought of a slow creepy lullaby which may seem like Hansel and Gretel but with a deranged twist. The soundtrack we originally chose was a lullaby but we thought that we wanted it to be a bit more up tempo so that it would fit in with the action scenes. It starts off slowly and then gradually gets faster, louder and heavier, we wanted to scare the audience as the song picked up the tempo. The song reflects on horror and action which is exactly how we wanted Hansel and Gretel to be perceived. The clips we slowed down at the beginning fitted in well with the slow tempo at the beginning and then started to pick up were we had snippets of clips to add to the fast pace. The tone of the song is eerie which is suited to the disturbed fairytale that we wanted to create. After the witch's door slams, the pace picks up which is used to excite the audience as it gradually leads to the point of seeing the witch's terrifying eyes which will hopefully have a dramatic effect. We used the Mac's microphone to record the loud shut of the door and stop the music to fit that in which is when the song picks up tempo. We think this song definitely fitted in with the pace of the clips better than the original lullaby.

Location lists

This is where we filmed a numerous amount of scenes in our trailer, we filmed the witch's house and Hansel and Gretel's house here. It was a good location as it had a spacious garden and the window in the kitchen faced directly over where Hansel and Gretel were playing, so it was perfect to shoot an over the shoulder shot. Since it was one of our houses, it was ideal because there was therefore no problems and we got to shoot without any interruptions.

Here is Millbank bridge and this is where we shot Hansel and Gretel under the bridge hiding from the witch and many other scenes. We had to be extra careful in case any of the cast members fell into the stream, also because it was raining going down was even harder. We chose this location as it is very remote and it has a chilling atmosphere to it, since not many people come here it make the scenes look professional.

Here is Millbank again and it is were Hansel and Gretel were running down the path. As you can see it is remote which makes the audience think  about what is happening. It also seems creepy the way no one is there and that is often common in horror films because it will scare the audience if no one is there to help. There was no problem shooting here as it is a public place and because its in the countryside, we didn't experience any interruptions.

Here is the witch's house, we thought this would be an ideal location because the trees around it make it look sinister and the cobbled path makes it look traditional and aged. Since it is in the countryside it fits in well with the chilling atmosphere we were trying to create.

Idents

Paramount Pictures has supported franchises such as The Godfather, Star Trek, Transformers and Paranormal Activity. It has also supported films like Breakfast at Tiffanys and Sabrina which have been well respected films including Audrey Hepburn. The logo starts off with the screen above the clouds in the sky with stars falling down around a mountain. It suggests that the stars came down and they are unique. The logo originally had twenty-four stars, as a tribute to the then current system of contracts for actors, since Paramount had twenty-four stars signed at the time. The stars then form a circle around the mountain as the text 'Paramount' comes above it. Ideally I would like the ident to relate to the genre and I don't think it reflects this in the film. It also doesn't really reflect on a fairy-tale remake like Hansel and Gretel. The colour scheme I would look for are dark blues and blacks, the sunset to me reflects on a romance or drama film, it also seems a dated to me with the text and the stars looks like it was made in the 1990's.

Lionsgate has supported popular films such as Dirty Dancing, Good Luck Chuck and Abduction. The logo starts off by going through cogs like we are inside a machine, it then comes out of a key hole of double doors and then has the text of Lionsgate, this suggests that Lionsgate work constantly like a machine. We didn't think that this ident would blend well with our film and films such as Dirty Dancing don't exactly have any similarities to Hansel and Gretel, it also doesn't create a chilling setting that we would of wanted at the start of it. I do think compared to Paramount that it is more relevent to films like Abduction as the metallic look of the cogs makes it seem modern. I think this similarity would be one that I want in our ident for Hansel & Gretel. I think if the ident was connected with the film and had a horror element to it that it would blend with the film. If it doesn't blend then it woun't flow through the trailer consistently which is what we want to capture the audience to want to watch it. I feel that 'intimidating' strong idents make the film seem more relevent and modern.

Dreamworks has supported successfull films such as Monsters Inc., Dreamgirls and The Lovely Bones. The logo starts off with the screen being in the sky at night, until the end of a fishing rod going into the water and the audience realise it is a reflection, the screen then pans up to see a little boy sitting on the moon. The music in the background seems quite upbeat but slow, I think this reflects on childrens films or films that have a good ending. The upbeat music and the image of the child reflect on eachother, it makes the clip seem like a dream with the child acting like a ghost, possibly playing on 'Dreamworks'. I don't think that this clip would fit in with our trailer as it is meant to be a horror film and instead this ident has been linked with films like cartoon, comedy or even drama films. I do think that it is an effective ident though because it is calm and would blend in nicely with a trailer since it's quite soft although I don't think that it would fit in with Hansel and Gretel, mainly because of the music being light and happy.

Walt Disney is famous for the whole brand that he has created, the castle is famous and therefore can be recogniseable. I think out of all the idents it is my favourite as it is involved with the brand and the films like Tinkerbell flying over the castle with pixie dust and the Cinderella castle, it therefore attracts fans of the films. The ident seems welcoming as the logo used to be in a graphics form but since has been transformed to be relevent as it has changed to colour and the water and sky seem realistic. I think obviously that it isn't suitable for our film as Disney films don't tend to be linked to horror and normally aimed at children. Another main factor is that all Disney films are linked with this ident and therefore the film would have to be Disney which Hansel & Gretel clearly isn't. Such films that Walt Disney has been linked to our Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Tangled. These films are normally upbeat and have a message behind it to teach children which Hansel & Gretel definitely doesn't.

20th Century Fox is one of the six major American film studios as of 2011. It is recognised everywhere from television series like the Simpsons or major films like Dr. Dolittle and Home Alone. The logo starts off by panning around what seems to be like the Fox studios. The music behind it has a build up and seems to have drums in there which makes Fox seem special and superior to all other companies. The ident used to be quite out dated and the logo didn't used to be 3D, I think that it is a good ident but it doesn't reflect on our film and seems to not represent many horror films like Hansel and Gretel. If the colour scheme was darker then it could possible relate to our film and blend more. The colour scheme instead of purple and gold signify that Fox is superior and special and that it should be counted as a well respected organisation. The lights pointing upwards to it make it seem like a red carpet event is going on suggestin that it is special and has achieved awards.

Poster mock up

I definitely wanted the poster to be simple with the image taking the main attraction of it and not the text. I wanted the image to be the main attraction so the audience instantly can guess what genre it is and get to know what the film would be about to entice them. The image is going to be dark reflecting on horror with possibly red text, depending on how the image will come out. The image I wanted was of the witch with her cloak on with tall trees behind her, when the audience see the title of 'Hansel&Gretel' they will instantly know what the story is about and hopefully the image will be chilling enough to reveal that there is a twist in it. The film title will be big at the bottom of the screen and I want the tagline to be underneath it to support the horror side of the title. The release date will stand out as it is vital information that the audience will remember if there is few information on the poster and it is not cluttered. The website of the film will be at the bottom, this is good for the marketing campaign, the audience will want to go on it to look at the trailer and this is how its synergy works together. The production logo will be in the corner and hopefully not draw too much attention away from the image or the title as it is not the main focus even though it is important.

Costume list- Requirements for each shoot

Hansel: Clothes a teenager would normally wear. Should be dark to fit in with the horror theme of the trailer.
Jacket and jeans.

Gretel: Clothes a teenager would normally wear. Should be dark to fit in with the horror theme of the trailer.  Cardigan and jeans.

Witch: Black clothes, black boots and black cloak.

Step Mother: Stylish blouse and leggings.

Father: Checkered shirt to reflect on original story of being a woodcutter.

Extras: Jeans and hoodie

Props lists- requirements for each shoot

There are certain props that were needed for our trailer to make it seem realistic, these included;

  • Fake blood
  • Ball for Hansel and Gretel to play with
  • Washing up props for Step Mother
  • Cloak for witch
  • Torch
  • Weapon
  • Rope to tie up Hansel
  • Tools

Magazine front cover mock up

I personally think that a simple layout is more effective as it is all about the image, therefore I tried to not put too many incentives, pugs and advertisements on the cover. The house style of the magazine will be something bold to make it stand out behind the image. I want a plain background behind my actor/actress as I think it makes them stand out and makes the cover less cluttered. I also think that the text of the pug or incentive will stand out against a plain background unlike a pattern etc. The masthead will be behind the actor/actress' head as I want the cover to be all about them and entice the reader to focus on the films advertisement. Any advertisement on the cover won't cross over the actor/actress and will try to put them in any space. If any text is over the person then it will take the focus away. I  will try to use a range of different fonts to make the cover look stylish and not seem the same throughout. I am going to try to use a lot of effects on Photoshop to make sure that the photo stands out and looks slick. I want there to be a consistent theme between the poster and the cover to support the synergy of the film. The barcode will go at the bottom and the dateline will go at the top by the masthead, they are vital parts of the cover but only need to be small to not clutter the cover too much. I will probably put a website on it as well, this audience will then get to see more information, probably behind-the-scenes which will make them want to buy the magazine and also it supports the synergy again.

Actor list- Who is being used and reasons for choice

Hansel: John Appleby- We chose John because he is in acting school at the moment and could be realistic in acting out as Hansel. We also think him and Lucy look well together as Hansel and Gretel. He used a lot of emotion in the film which reflected on the horror side of Hansel & Gretel. John also had no problem in doing his own stunts like fighting with the witch which was another bonus as to why we chose him.

Gretel: Lucy Cashman- We chose Lucy to play Gretel because she fits into how we imagined Gretel to look like. We saw Gretel to be very feminine, with long brown hair and having a small height, so Lucy definitely fit the part and cooperated well with John to create that 'brother-sister' relationship that needed to be portrayed. Lucy has worked in similar previous projects like this, which is another reason why we chose her.

Witch: Ashley Gallagher- It is undecided about who will play the witch but we think that they suit playing this character well and would look realistic. We think that they could both reflect on the horror side of the story. Ashley showed great horror on her close up shots which is shown in our trailer and definitely gave a chilling performance. Ashley's pale skin worked well with her characters image and so the close up shots of her reflected on the horror side.

Step mother: Elle Loftus- We chose Elle to play the step mother since she has the right costumes and fits into how we imagined this character to look like. The step mother in this film was meant to be evil like the original tale, and Elle definitely was able to play up to this. We wanted to convey the step mother to be quite high maintenance, suggesting that she doesn't really care about Hansel and Gretel which is why she wore stylish clothing and had her hair and make up done up and she looked the part.

Father: Danny Mcdonald- We chose Danny to play the father since he wanted to reflect on the 'struggling relationship' in the trailer and he also fits into who we want the father to look like. He has been in projects alike this and we thought he and Elle would work great together to convey the 'struggling relationship' that had to come across at the beginning of the film.

Extra's: Alex Robson- We chose Alex to play as an extra in the film because he looked like a 'typical' teenager and he looked the part for the scene he was to play in. He has also been in previous projects as an extra alike this film so we knew he had the experience.

Storyboards

Pitch script

Danny: We have decided to base our film on the classic fairy-tale Hansel and Gretel
Becky: However our take on the story will be slightly different with a modern thriller twist. This gives a new take on the story which will appeal to many demographics.
(show poster)
Joe: We have chosen to keep the name of the film the same as the original story as we did not want to detract from the classic title which is known throughout the world.
Alex: The plot for our film does not remove itself from the tale however we have introduced more modern problems to the story a troubled marriage for example between the parents. Also the Witch has been altered to a more realistic character without the gingerbread house etc.
Danny: It starts with the children running away from home due to the step mother who has just moved in with the father after their mother’s death. They come across a house quite different to their own. Intrigued they decide to have a closer look which leads to chilling consequences.
(Take through storyboards)
Becky:  The part of Hansel and Gretel will be played by John Appleby and Lucy Cashman. Two very well-known and professional leads.
Joe: The parts of the step-mother and the Father will be played by Eleanor Loftus and Danny McDonald who have both recently been in big Hollywood films such as “The secret”.
Alex: Ashley Gallagher will play the part of the “Witch” This is her first role in a film as she has been working in the theatre for the past few years.
Danny: This film is a great chance to bring back a classic childrens story into the lime light and get it into the public once again.
